The retina is a lining at the back of the eye.  Light strikes the retina through the lens in your eye and produces a picture which is then sent to the brain. This picture enables you to see.  The blood vessels in your retina can be seen directly with the correct equipment such as ultra-wide field retinal imaging equipment. .

Why is a healthy retina important?

An unhealthy retina is unable to send clear signals to your brain which can result in impaired vision or blindness.  Many retinal conditions and other eye diseases can be successfully treated with early detection.

Typically, eye conditions do not hurt.  The retina has no nerve endings and vision loss may occur gradually. Without regular comprehensive eye examination, you may not be aware of potential problems.

For Eyes Optometrist use technologically advanced imaging systems such as the Optos Dayton ultra-wide retina imaging machine manufactured by Nikon.  It captures more than 80% of your retina in one image.  This compares to traditional methods which typically reveal only 10-15% of your retina at one time.

How does ultra-wide field imaging help?

For Eyes Optometrist use technologically advanced imaging systems such as the Optos Dayton ultra-wide retina imaging machine manufactured by Nikon.  It captures more than 80% of your retina in one image.  This compares to traditional methods which typically reveal only 10-15% of your retina at one time.

These detailed images make it easier for our optometrists to detect any abnormalities or signs of eye disease as well as early signs of general health issues such as diabetes or high blood pressure.

Furthermore, your images are stored as a historical reference point.  Our optometrists will be able to track your personal eye health changes.
